Gram's Birthday Surprise

This year we almost gave our Gram a heart
attack by surprising her with a visit from her eldest, Leigh all the
way from California. We figured it was a fitting initiation for her 60th
Birthday. As if we didn't put the woman through enough throughout the
80's(2 girls suffering from severe teen angst). Well, I guess I should
only speak for myself. I was enough!
Mom's dear friends gave her a luncheon complete with a cooking demonstration given by Chef Susan Holt (L'Academie de Cuisine). The meal was so delicious we didn't even miss our annual Greenbrier trip (ha ha!). Gram was greeted by Leigh saying: "Mam, would you care for Champagne?" Gram turned around, realized it was Leigh and...well, you can see the pictures! It was a wonderful weekend full of tears and laughter. We gave Mom a "Creative Memories" Album filled with pages designed by each of her best friends and her girls, of course. It had a "This is your life, Catherine Walker Crawford" flavor to it which provoked more tears. Now that Leigh and I are mothers too, we appreciate our dear Mom even more. None of us can remember when it was we all became such close friends but we thank God every day for giving us this precious, strong steel magnolia to raise us, hold our hands, wipe our tears and later become our best friend. And, by the way, our kids kinda like her too. This special weekend was definitely a highlight of 2001.
